“Embrace Of The Serpent”  Unrated, 2 hours 2 minutes.  Nominated for Best Foreign Language Film!!  From Colombia with English Subtitles.  The story of the relationship between an Amazonian shaman (who is the last survivor of his people) and two scientists who work together over the course of 40 years to search the Amazon for a sacred healing plant.

“The Lady In The Van”  Rated PG-13, 1 hour 44 minutes.  This film tells the true story of the relationship between Alan Bennett (who wrote the script) and the title character Miss Shepherd (played by Dame Maggie Smith) who ‘temporarily’ parked her van in his London driveway and proceeded to live there for 15 years!!

“The Revenant”  Rated R, 2 hours 36 minutes.  Nominated for 12 Academy Awards!!  This Best Picture nominee stars Best Actor nominee Leonardo DiCaprio and Best Supporting Actor nominee Tom Hardy.  During a fur trading expedition in the 1820s, a frontiersman is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead in thewilderness by his hunting team.  He must then utilize his survival skills to find a way back home to his family.  Directed by nominee Alejandro G. Iñárritu and also nominated in the Cinematography, Film Editing, Production Design, Costume Design, Makeup and Hairstyling, Sound Mixing, Sound Editing and Visual Effects categories.

“Brooklyn”  Rated PG-13, 1 hour 52 minutes.  Nominated for 3 Academy Awards!!  An Irish immigrant (Best Actress nominee Saoirse Ronan) in 1950s Brooklyn falls for a sweet Italian plumber (Emory Cohen) but faces temptation from another man (Domhnall Gleeson) when she returns to her homeland for a visit.  Also starring Jim Broadbent and Julie Walters and also nominated for Best Picture and Best Adapted Screenplay.

The New York Film Critics Series returns on Thursday, March 17th with “The Confirmation” – a father/son road trip comedy starring Clive Owen and co-starring Jaeden Lieberher, Maria Bello and Matthew Modine.  Written and Directed by Bob Nelson, the writer who brought us the wonderful movie “Nebraska”.  Rated PG-13 with a running time of 90 minutes.  Showtime is 7:30pm.  The pre-show (beginning at 7pm) and post-show interviews occur elsewhere and not at our Cinema, just to be clear.  Admission is $18 per person – a price set by the Series.  For further information please log onto http://nyfilmcriticsseries.com/.

“The Big Short”  Rated R, 2 hours 10 minutes.  Nominated for 5 Academy Awards!!  Four outsiders in the world of high-finance predict the credit and housing bubble collapse of the mid-2000s and decide to take on the big banks for their greed and lack of foresight.  Starring Christian Bale (nominated for Best Supporting Actor), Steve Carrell, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt.  Also nominated for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Film Editing.

Plaza Theatrical Productions is letting loose Disney’s “Aladdin” on our Bellmore stage this Saturday, the 27th @ 11am.  And…there is a Sunday performance of “Charlotte’s Web” on February 28th @ 12pm.
