This week we have two new films at Malverne starting Friday and another new one beginning Wednesday, March 16th.  Some changes at Bellmore and North Shore Towers as well.

 

We’ll start with our Malverne Cinema first:

 

“The Young Messiah”  Rated PG, 1 hour 49 minutes.  The story of the very young Jesus Christ and his family as they come to terms with his purpose in life.

“Colliding Dreams”  Unrated, 2 hours 14 minutes.  Documentary recounting the dramatic history of one of the most controversial and urgently relevant political ideologies of the modern era.  The century-old conflict in the Middle East continues to play a central role in world politics…and yet, amidst the fierce, often-lethal controversy, the Zionist idea of a homeland for Jews in the land of ancient Israel remains little understood and its meanings often distorted.

“Miracles From Heaven” Rated PG, 1 hour 49 minutes.  Family drama based on a true story of a miracle happening to a 10 year old patient after a freak accident.  Starring Jennifer Garner, Queen Latifah and John Carroll Lynch.

“Whiskey Tango Foxtrot”  Rated R, 1 hour 51 minutes.  This comedy/drama stars Tina Fey as real life journalist Kim Barker during her wartime coverage days spent in both Afghanistan and Pakistan beginning in 2002.  Co-starring Margot Robbie, Martin Freeman, Alfred Molina and Billy Bob Thornton.

“Race”  Rated PG-13, 2 hours 14 minutes.  Biopic on track-and-field superstar Jesse Owens (portrayed by Stephan James) as he prepares to compete in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin and wins four gold medals.  Co-starring Jason Sudeikis, Jeremy Irons and William Hurt.

“Brooklyn”  Rated PG-13, 1 hour 52 minutes.  An Irish immigrant (Saoirse Ronan) in 1950s Brooklyn falls for a sweet Italian plumber (Emory Cohen) but faces temptation from another man (Domhnall Gleeson) when she returns to her homeland for a visit.  Also starring Jim Broadbent and Julie Walters.

*This Thursday, March 17th, the New York Film Critics Series is back with “The Confirmation” starring Clive Owen as a down-on-his-luck carpenter forced to watch his 8-year-old son with whom there isn’t much of a relationship.  Co-starring Maria Bello, Matthew Modine and Patton Oswalt.  This film is rated PG-13 with a running time of 90 minutes.  There is a 7pm pre-show and the actual screening of the film begins at 7:30, immediately followed by a Q&A with the cast.  Tickets are $18 for this advance screening, unless you have your discount admission tickets from the last screening signed by our staff.

At our North Shore Towers Cinema we are proud to offer the following:

 

“The Revenant”  Rated R, 2 hours 36 minutes.  Winner of 3 Academy Awards!!  During a fur trading expedition in the 1820s, a frontiersman (Best Actor winner Leonardo DiCaprio) is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead in the wilderness by his hunting team.  He must then utilize his survival skills to find a way back home to his family.  Also winner for Best Director and Best Cinematography.

“The Lady In The Van”  Rated PG-13, 1 hour 44 minutes.  This film tells the true story of the relationship between Alan Bennett (who wrote the script) and the title character Miss Shepherd (played by Dame Maggie Smith) who ‘temporarily’ parked her van in his London driveway and proceeded to live there for 15 years!!

At our Bellmore Movies we are proud to present the following two films:

 

“The Big Short”  Rated R, 2 hours 10 minutes.  Academy Award Winner for Best Adapted Screenplay!!  Four outsiders in the world of high-finance predict the credit and housing bubble collapse of the mid-2000s and decide to take on the big banks for their greed and lack of foresight.  Starring Christian Bale, Steve Carrell, Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt.

Plaza Theatrical Productions will be performing the timeless musical “The Wizard Of Oz” this Saturday, March 12th @ 11am and it will be running through the next school break, with one Sunday performance @12pm on March 20th.

 

Beginning in April, Plaza Theatrical Productions will be bringing back the musical classic “Camelot” on Sunday, April 17th & 24th as well as on May 1st, with all showtimes @ 2pm.  Tickets for this or for the children’s program may be obtained by calling 516-599-6870 or by logging onto www.plazatheatrical.com.

Another reminder… it’s Daylight Saving Time this weekend so remember to set your clocks to spring forward 1 hour on Saturday night.  We lose an hour, but the earlier the day begins the earlier to go to the movies!!
