Showtimes 2/7-13/2014 * Malverne Cinema & Bellmore Movies

February 5, 2014
This week we have one new film at our Malverne Cinema and some films are  leaving.  Here goes with Malverne  first:
“Labor Day” Rated PG-13, 1 hour 51  minutes. A 13-year-old boy tries to become the ‘man of the house’ to help his  reclusive mother (Kate Winslet). While out shopping for school clothes they meet  a man (Josh Brolin) who clearly needs their help and he persuades them to take  him in. The weekend in the movie is its title. Co-starring Tobey Maguire, Clark  Gregg and James Van Der Beek.
Friday & Saturday @ 2pm, 4:30, 7pm & 9:45
Sunday to Thursday @ 2pm, 4:30, 7pm & 9:20
“The Wolf Of Wall Street” Rated R, 3  hours long! Nominated for 5 Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Actor  for Leonardo DiCaprio and Best Supporting Actor for Jonah Hill. But let’s not  forget Martin Scorsese for Best Director and rounding out the 5 nominations with  Best Adapted Screenplay. New York stockbroker goes from penny stocks to a bad  case of greed. Co-starring Matthew McConaughey, Rob Reiner, Kyle Chandler, Jean  Dujardin (remember him from “The Artist”?) and Robert  Clohessy.
Friday to Thursday @ 1pm, 4:30 & 8:15 daily
“Gloria”  Rated R, 1 hour 50 minutes.  SUBTITLED produced in Spanish.  A lady in her later lonely years seeks happiness and companionship at night and meets a certain someone.
Friday & Saturday @ 1pm, 3:15, 5:30, 7:40 & 9:45
Sunday to Thursday @ 1pm, 3:15, 5:30, 7:30 & 9:30
“Philomena” Rated PG-13, 1 hour 35 minutes.  Nominated for 4 Academy Awards. Starring Judi Dench (nominated for Best  Actress). A 2009 BBC investigative book is brought to the screen. When she was  very young, Philomena had a child out of wedlock and her Irish-Catholic family  forced her to put him up for adoption and the baby was sent to the United  States. Years later, after moving on with her life, she meets up with a BBC  reporter and tells him her story. Amazingly it remains #1 at our  Cinema!
Friday & Saturday @ 1pm, 3:15, 5:30, 7:40 &  9:45
Sunday to Thursday @ 1pm, 3:15, 5:30, 7:30 &  9:30
“Nebraska” Rated R, 1 hour 55 minutes.  Nominated for 6 Academy Awards. One of my favorite Directors after Frank Capra  is Alexander Payne (nominated for Best Director) who brought us “The  Descendants” & “Sideways” and this  time chose his home state to work in. Bruce Dern (nominated for Best Actor)  stars as an elderly man on the brink of dementia who receives a sweepstakes  letter in the mail informing him that he won one million dollars. He then sets  out, walking at first, to a neighboring state to collect his winnings. Will  Forte (of “SNL” fame), June Squibb (nominated for Best Supporting Actress) and  Stacy Keach are his co-stars. Shot in black & white (nomination for Best  Cinematography) and after a few minutes you don’t even notice it  anymore.
Friday & Saturday @ 2pm, 4:30, 7pm &  9:45
Sunday to Thursday @ 2pm, 4:30, 7pm & 9:30
We have the honor at our Malverne Cinema of being the only theatre  selected on Long Island to participate in the new New York Film Critics Series.  Trailers and posters are up and running at the Cinema to fill you in or you can  log onto for further information. The  NYFCS folks are requesting we gather email addresses with full names for a  signup list. Tickets are $18 dollars each for this once a month  series.
