This week we have two new films for the Malverne Cinema. Here goes:
“The Other Son” Rated PG-13, 1 hour 45 minutes. SUBTITLED produced in French, Hebrew, Arabic and English. Two babies switched at birth during the Gulf War hospital evacuations. One went home to an Israeli family and the other to a Palestinian family. During routine blood work for mandatory military service, the switch is discovered and turns their lives upside down.  Distributed by Cohen Media.

“The Flat” Unrated, 1 hour 37 minutes. Partial Subtitles, produced in German and Hebrew. Documentary of director Arnon Goldfinger who is given the task of cleaning out his 98-year-old grandmother’s Tel Aviv flat after her passing. His grandparents have lived there since the 1930’s. His family history, filled with mystery, unfolds.  IFC Films Distributed this film.

“The Skin I Live In”  Rated R, 1 hour 57 minutes.  SUBTITLED produced in Spanish.  Director Pedro Almodóvar and Antonio Banderas bring this thriller to life.  It is said that ‘necessity is the mother of invention’, well so is tragedy.  Banderas portrays a plastic surgeon bent on finding a process that could have saved his burn victim wife.  He has motive and means and all he needs now is a guinea pig as a patient.  Distributed by Sony Classics.

“The Way”  Rated PG-13, 1 hour 55 minutes.  Martin Sheen and son Emilio Estevez star in this emotion-filled film directed by Emilio.  A father has to travel to France to identify and claim his son’s remains after a hiking accident along the ”The Way Of St. James” trail.  What he decides to do next is the basis of the story. Over at our Bellmore Movies we are showing two different films.  “Moneyball” Starring Brad PItt and at a separate admission “The Ides Of March” starring George Clooney.  “Moneyball” is Rated PG-13, 2 hours 13 minutes and will be shown Friday @ 12:30 only.  Saturday to Thursday @ 1pm, 5:20 & 9:40  “The Ides Of March” is Rated R, 1 hour 44 minutes and will be shown beginning on Saturday to Thursday @ 3:25 & 7:45.  Both films are distributed by Sony Pictures.
Psychic Medium Robert E. Hansen* returns to the Malverne Cinema this Tuesday, December 6, 2011 @ 7:30.  Doors open @ 7pm.  Tickets are $30 per person and available at our box office.
Warning!!!  This Saturday they are having the Holiday lighting festivities in the streets of Malverne.  They begin to close Hempstead Avenue around 3-3:30 and reopen at 9-9:30pm.  WE are still open and you can get around this by driving to Church Street off of Ocean Avenue just South of the railroad tracks.  Park anywhere in town there or in the lot of Town Hall and you can walk over the track footpath and you’ll be in our back parking lot.  If you are already in town when they shut the streets, no worries, they easily let you leave.  Another route is to come from Franklin Avenue using the back roads and park in the Astoria Bank parking lot or anywhere legally on the streets.  The plus to this is a free movie showing of “The Smurfs” @ 10:30am & 12 noon.  If you are a smurf fan or know a young person who is, then you are invited!!
